Up until recently maimed animals were put to death. Science has been coming to their aid. In recent times, horses have been given prosthetic legs and an eagle has been given a prosthetic beak.
People are going out of their way to help animals that would have died or been killed by what had happened to them. In doing so, they are not just helping animals survive, these people are learning more about how animals act, how their bodies really work and what we can do to prevent such incidents from occurring.
An added benefit is learning how different types or prosthetics work which could help further develop human prosthetics.
